Board to elect officers

USD 383 Board of Education members will elect their newest officers Wednesday.

The meeting will be the first of the district’s new fiscal year, which begins Tuesday.

At the board’s last meeting, vice president Leah Fliter said she wanted to run for president. Curt Herrman currently holds the position.

Members Marcia Rozell and Darell Edie both expressed interest in running for vice president. The officers are picked by a vote from the school board’s seven members. Officers serve for one year.

At Wednesday’s meeting, members also will consider annual duty appointments for treasurer, clerk and legal counsel among other positions.

In other business, the board will hear a report about enrollment for the district’s online education program Manhattan Virtual Academy. The academy is getting ready for its first year after the district terminated its contract with K12 Inc. in December of 2013.

As of June 27, 45 students are enrolled in the academy, according to an agenda report.

In addition to those matters, the board will consider approving maintenance projects in the district’s schools, including carpet replacement at Ogden Elementary.

A report about budget development for USD 383 is also expected.
