Jill Docking will be the featured speaker at the Riley County Democrats’ “Love Your Party” dinner and fundraiser Feb. 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn and Convention Center.

Docking is a Wichita Democrat appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius in 2007. She is currently a financial adviser with Wells Fargo in Wichita.

In 1993, Docking became the first woman to receive a gubernatorial appointment to serve as commanding general of the Kansas Cavalry, a statewide business organization.

She has co-chaired Kansas, Inc., the Kansas Justice Commission, and the Kansas Children’s Campaign. She has been involved with the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Sedgwick County, and served on Boards of Directors for the Kansas Food Bank.

In 1996, Docking was the Democratic nominee for the United State Senate. She is also a former University of Kansas Alumni Association Board Member.

She received a BA in history from Brown and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas. She and her husband, Tom, a former lieutenant governor of Kansas, have two grown children.

Riley County Democratic Party Chair Kathryn Focke said that this is the organization’s major fundraising event.  Focke said that a silent auction will be held, featuring such items as a week’s stay at vacation condo in Mexico, framed artwork, and artisan made scarves and quilts.

The event will begin at 6 with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner, live music, Docking’s speech and the live auction.

Tickets are $45 if purchased before Feb. 10, $50 at the door, and $25 for college students.
