Bishop Carroll 11, Maize South 0

Brittany Finney hit two home runs and Morgan Balderas added another as Bishop Carroll eased to an 11-0 win over Maize South in the Class 5A state championship game on Friday at the Twin Oaks Softball Complex.

The Golden Eagles jumped on Maize South from the first inning, piling on three runs. Bishop Carroll went on to add four in the third and another four in the sixth inning to bring the game to an end via run rule.

Jessi Haffner took the win in the circle for the Golden Eagles, while Mavericks’ pitcher Kelsey Sterneker took the loss.

Carroll slammed Kapaun Mt. Carmel 18-1 in the semi-finals on Friday, with Finney holding the Crusaders to one run on two hits in four innings. Hunter Hogan hit two home runs for Carroll.

The Mavericks made it after edging Seaman 1-0, and didn’t score their run until the top of the seventh inning.
