One of the biggest track and field meets in the nation is less than three weeks away, and it will be hosted here in Manhattan by the Kansas State Wildcats.
Tickets are on sale now for the 2012 Big 12 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 11-13 at R.V. Christian Track Complex.
Fans can purchase tickets through the K-State ticket office in person or by calling 1-800-221-2287. Tickets can also be purchased online at kstatesports.com/tickets.
The meet will feature more than 500 student-athletes competing in 22 events to claim the team championships. With 2012 being an Olympic year, a number of the athletes in action will be eyeing their best marks in order to qualify for the nation’s Olympic Trials later this summer in hopes of representing their homeland in London.
The Big 12 is known across the country as one of the top leagues for track and field, as six of the Big 12’s men’s teams are currently ranked in the USTFCCCA Top 25. The Big 12 women’s teams are tops in the nation with seven currently ranked in the Top 25 and another just outside at No. 27. Five of those women’s teams are ranked No. 11 or higher. The Big 12 men boast three Top 10 teams.
K-State is among those top teams on the women’s side, ranking 17th — led by senior Ryann Krais, who is the defending NCAA champion in the heptathlon and also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles. K-State’s men have returning NCAA champion Erik Kynard in the high jump and are standing at No. 34 currently.
