Beer sales approved at Kaw Valley Rodeo

By The Mercury

County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution allowing beer sales at the Riley County Fair Rodeo at Thursday’s meeting. The resolution was passed with little discussion from commissioners.

Clancy Holeman, county counselor, noted that the original idea of the resolution was to approve beer sales for a period of three years. However, Holeman felt that would lead to unnecessary complications down the road. The resolution approved Thursday, in effect, allows beer sales in perpetuity at the rodeo.

Previously, Holeman told commissioners that the 2011 rodeo served as a test and went well, which served as a basis for making beer sales at the rodeo permanent.

He said commissioners can always vote to repeal the resolution if things should get out of hand.

Commissioners were comfortable with his reasoning and approved the measure on a 3-0 vote.
