Battery report determined to be false

By The Mercury

Investigators at the Riley County Police Department determined that information in an alleged battery case was false.

In the early morning hours of Aug.18 police responded to a battery report in the south central portion of Manhattan. It was reported that a female victim jogging alone was stopped by an unknown male subject. It was reported that the male, with unknown intentions, battered the victim, who was able to escape with minor injuries.

Officer Matthew Droge said new information from interviews led investigators to determine the report was false. He said RCPD still urges community members to take steps that will reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime, but investigators are confident that this “unknown suspect” is not at large and the community was not at increased risk of danger at the time of the report.
