Battery of corrections officer

By The Mercury

Riley County officers arrested a Wichita man early Friday morning for criminal trespass, interference with law enforcement and battery of a corrections officer.

Chad Meyer, 32, was first arrested outside of Kite’s Bar and Grill in Aggieville after 1 a.m. for criminal trespass after he allegedly refused to leave the premises despite being asked to by both employees and police, Officer Matthew Droge said.

When officers attempted to arrest him, Droge said Meyer resisted, attempting to prevent being handcuffed, which lead to the count of interference with law enforcement.

Then, Droge said, while being booked, Meyer kicked Corrections Officer Jamie Schlegel, 25, while Schlegel attempted to check under the man’s feet during a routine body search prior to being taken into the jail.

Schlegel was not injured.

Meyer has been released on $7,000 bond.
