Backpack stolen, lit on fire

Police reported that a 17-year-old’s backpack was allegedly stolen from her car and lit on fire Monday evening.

Lt. Josh Kyle said the unknown suspect stole the student’s backpack, containing almost $300 worth of items, including textbooks, from her car between 8 and 10 p.m. Monday while it was parked in the 3000 block of Pecanwood Drive.

Kyle said the backpack was discovered nearby and had been lit on fire. He said other vehicle burglaries had taken place in the area, but this is the first related arson. He said officers filed burglary and arson reports.

The suspect is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
