Arraignment set for Nichols

By The Mercury

An arraignment hearing for a Kansas City man facing murder charges in both Riley and Geary counties was scheduled on Wednesday in the Geary County case.

Anthony Nichols, 33, will appear again in Geary County District Court on July 28 at 9 a.m. A jury trial is expected to be scheduled following the arraignment hearing.

Nichols appeared in Geary County court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. He is accused of murdering and robbing 37-year-old Anthony Nixon in Junction City during the early morning hours of Sept. 7, 2013.

Riley County prosecutors have alleged that Nichols shot but failed to kill 68-year-old John Burroughs in his Manhattan trailer in Redbud Estates on Sept. 6, only hours before he traveled to Junction City.

Nichols is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Riley County District Court on July 16.
