Four young Manhattan tennis players brought home trophies over the weekend from tournaments in Topeka and Kansas City.
Daniel Harkin won the title in boys 14-and-under singles, while his sister Jillian won the trophy in girls 14-and-under singles at the Jayhawk Junior Open in Topeka.
Jillian defeated Hallie Beard of Topeka and then Alexanda Dodd of Lawrence for the championship. Daniel defeated Duke Mitchell and Blake Morrell, both from Topeka, to get the final, where he defeated Ian Pultz-Earle of Lawrence.
In Kansas City, Brett Seaton took second in the boys 12-and-under division of the USTA Missouri Valley Sweet 16 tournament that included the Top 16 players from the five-state Missouri Valley region.
Unseeded, Seaton defeated Jackson Atherton of Tulsa; Graydon Lair, also of Tulsa; and Aaron Brewer, of Broken Arrow, Okla., before falling in the finals to Zachary Trimpe of Edwardsville, Ill.
Kirkland Lambert won the consolation finals for fifth place in the boys 16-and-under division at the Woodside Summer Open in Shawnee Mission.
Lambert beat Domenico DiMare of Fairway and Tanner Ferrell of Lee’s Summit before falling to eventual champion Thompson Tong of Overland Park. He then defeated Lee Fitchett of Overland Park; Owen Parra of Fairway; and Daniel Han of Olathe for fifth.
