Area golfers compete at state

A number of area athletes competed in state golf tournaments around the state on Monday.

The best finish came from the Riley County Falcons, who took third in Sand Greens at Tipton Oaks Golf Course in Tipton.

The Falcons scored a 331 as a team, seven shots behind second-place Tipton. Cy Basset finished fourth with a 76 for the Falcons, while Matt Snyder was eighth with 80 and John Burnett 11th, also with an 80.

Valley Heights was eighth in the Class 1A tournament at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

Brenden Dobrovolny tied for 19th with a 91, while Seth McKay shot 104 and Patrick Hale shot 105. Mike Clark finished with a score of 118. Frankfort’s Brett Kenworthy shot 115.

Wamego’s Ryan Elder competed as an individual at the 4A tournament in Cheney at Cherry Oaks Golf Course. Elder finished 13th with a score of 76.
