Ambassador is next to give Landon

By The Mercury

Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the United States, will deliver a Landon Lecture at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Forum Hall. The title of his speech is “Israel, The Ultimate Ally.”

Oren was appointed as ambassador in 2009, having to give up his U.S. citizenship to assume the position. Oren recently refuted reports that he requested to end his tenure in the spring of 2013.

Before becoming ambassador, Oren was known as an Israeli historian and author who wrote two New York Times best-sellers, “Six Days of War: June 1967 and The Making of the Modern Middle East,” and “Power, Faith and Fantasy: America in the Middle East.”

Oren was born in New York and raised in New Jersey but has spent most of his adult life in Israel after getting his degrees from Columbia and Princeton.

Landons are open to the public.
