Alvin Brooks III to join K-State coaching staff

By Cole Manbeck

Bruce Weber is closing in on rounding out his coaching staff. Alvin Brooks III, who interviewed for an assistant-coaching position at Kansas State earlier this week, confirmed Friday morning on Twitter that he has accepted a position on the Wildcats’ staff.

Brooks, the son of Alvin Brooks II, the former head coach at Houston, comes to K-State after spending two seasons as an assistant at Sam Houston State. A graduate of Idaho State, Brooks also has coaching experience at Bradley, Arkansas Fort-Smith and Midland College.

Brooks’ presence on the staff gives Weber recruiting ties into Texas, something the new K-State head coach emphasized as a key when he began to put together his staff.

With Brooks’ hiring, K-State has just one assistant-coaching position available. Weber has yet to make an announcement regarding his director of basketball operations, but has already named Chris Lowery as one of his assistants and Jimmy Price as his strength and conditioning coach.
