Alberta Jane Meyer, 87, of Manhattan, died Thursday, October 31, at Valley Vista Nursing Home.

The family provided some of the following information.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1925, daughter to Effie (Kleiner) and Garret Johnson, on their farm between Riley and Leonardville.

On Oct. 28, 1945, she married Harold Meyer of Leonardville, and they resided in Manhattan. Harold preceded her in death on March 10, 1995.

She was a graduate of Brown Mackie College in Salina and worked for in Kansas City, Kan., and in Denver. But she then married and devoted herself to her husband, family and home.

Alberta loved her family. Her door was always open for a visit and good conversation. She was a wonderful “listener.” She loved to sing, play the piano, needlepoint and sew.

Her garden and yard was a gift to anyone who entered there. She and Harold loved to dance and “cut a rug.” As she would say, “we sure had some great times!”

She is survived by her two daughters, Sheri Connor and husband, Tim, of Shawnee, and Colleen Lord and husband, Craig, of Belvue. Also surviving is her brother, Harold Johnson of Riley; and sister, Babs Gonser of Paola.

Alberta is preceded in death by her older sister, Carol Gunckle; and infant daughter, Vicki.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Leonardville Cemetery in Leonardville.
