Aftershock takes second in Topeka



The Manhattan Optimist Aftershock 16-and-under softball team opened their season with a second-place finish at the Ken Berry complex in Topeka. 

They beat the Topeka Scorpions in the first game, 13-6. Ashley Faiola was the winning pitcher and leading hitters for the game were Faiola with two singles, Jayden Weers had a double and two singles, Kali Crome added three singles and Maddie Rogers hit a single, double and triple. Maleah Sandy, Alyssa Sias and Olivia Lee all added singles. 

In the second game, Midwest Swag downed Aftershock, 8-5. Faiola took the loss with Grace Suther pitching in relief and Lee caught. Faiola doubled and singled, Emily Brummett and Sandy had two singles each. Makayla Tegtmeier, Lee, Rogers and Crome all singled with Suther adding a double.

In the final game of pool play, Tegtmeier got the pitching victory with Weers closing for the shut out of the Abilene Attack, 12-0. Faiola had two doubles and a single and Brummett had a single and double.  Tegtmeier and Rogers each singled twice.  Weers, Crome, Lee and Sandy added singles.

Bracket play started with a 13-5 victory over the Scorpions. Weers got the pitching win with relief from Faiola.  Lee was behind the dish. The Scorpions scored three runs in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, with singles from Faiola and Crome, Lee hit a three-run home run to tie the game. Offense finished the game strong with Faiola adding a double, Lee a single and Crome two more singles. Maleah Sandy added two singles and a double, Weers had three singles, Sias two singles, Suther a single and a double, while Rogers had two singles.  Brummett had a single, Tegtmeier doubled and Tia Wood tripled.

The Topeka Hooligans took the championship game, 7-4 in a hard fought game. Suther took the loss in the circle.  Faiola pitched in relief with Olivia Lee handling the catching. Faiola had two doubles and Brummett two singles. Crome added a triple and Lee doubled. Weers, Tegtmeier, Sias and Wood all singled. 

These 11 players play on Riley County, Rock Creek, Wamego, Junction City and Marysville High School teams.
