Aftershock opens season

The Manhattan Optimist Aftershock 14-and-under fastpitch softball team made its debut for the 2012-13 softball season. 

The games were in Overland Park at the Fall Brawl tournament held at Blue Valley Softball Complex.

Aftershock faced the Franklin County Adrenalin from Ottawa first and came away with a 12-6 victory. 

Jayden Weers was the winning pitcher with Michaela Hays finishing the game in the circle. Olivia Lee caught all four games in the tournament.  Makayla Tegtmeier and Kayla Marienau hit doubles. Alee Buss had two singles and Emily Brummett, Alyssa Sias and Weers each added a single.

Aftershock notched their second victory of the season with an 5-1 win over the Topeka Lady Warriors. 

Makayla Tegtmeier was the winning pitcher for the game. Brummett had two singles. Weers, Tegtmeier and Buss each singled.

In the final game Saturday, facing Full Throttle from Clay Center-Clyde, Tegtmeier started the game and took the 12-0 loss. Alex Rogers pitched in relief.

Sunday in bracket play, Lightning from Pleasant Hill, Mo., won the game, 5-4, and ended the tournament for the Aftershock. Hays was the starting pitcher with Weers pitching in relief.  Alex Rogers had two singles with Ashley Faiola, Tegtmeier, and Sias adding a single.
