Christmas may still be a few months away, but the Wildcats have plenty to celebrate today after picking up a highly coveted verbal commitment from standout cornerback Duke Shelley.
Shelley — the 10th member of the Wildcats’ 2015 recruiting class so far — announced his intent via Twitter on Thursday night.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pounder from Tucker, Ga., is a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and a three-star recruit by 247sports and ESPN. Rivals lists Shelley as the 22nd-best cornerback in the country and 205th-best player overall.
Recruited by K-State receivers coach Andre Coleman, Shelley chose the Wildcats over known offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Utah, South Florida, Louisville and Wake Forest.
Shelley is the first defensive back in a recruiting class that’s shaping up nicely for K-State, albeit still early in the process. Including Shelley, the Wildcats have picked up three verbal commitments from Georgia. Eight of K-State’s commitments check in at three stars or better, according to Rivals.
