Staff reports

A 15-month-old child was air-lifted to Topeka Wednesday evening following a single-car accident in the 6900 block of Anderson Avenue.

Capt. Kurt Moldrup said Hallie Oltsmanns, Keats, was driving a 2007 Dodge Dakota on Anderson about a mile south of Keats when she swerved off the road to avoid a deer and struck a light pole.

Along with Riley County officers, the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County Fire District responded to the scene to help extricate Oltsmanns and the baby, Keaton Spencer.

Moldrup said Spencer was air-lifted for a head injury.

Riley County EMS transported Oltsmanns to Mercy Regional Health Center for back pain.

The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m.
