The Manhattan Rangers 11-and-under baseball team won the state title at the USSSA class AA tournament, topping 39 other teams earlier this month in Shawnee.
The Rangers went 2-1 in pool play, losing to the Wichita Aeros 10-8 before beating the Wichita Stix 14-4 and the Kansas City Mudcats 7-1. That gave the Rangers the 15th seed out of 16 teams that advanced into bracket play on Sunday.
But they knocked off the second-seeded Rampage 10-3, then beat the Wichita Irish 20-2. In the semifinals, the Rangers defeated Rebels-Meyer 4-3. In the finals, the Rangers beat the SEK Shockers 6-4.
The Rangers had won the class A title a year ago and moved up to AA division play this season. Their final overall record for the season was 30-21.
Rangers players include Ethan Bohnenblust, Bryan Holz, Jory Schindler, Payton Lakin, Adler Pierson, Connor Holle, Brooks Whaley, Avery Holle, Colby Perkins, Brandon Brase and Hunter Jones. Coaches include Aaron Holle and Scott Pierson.
