  • Longtime librarian/historian Walton dead at 77

    Geraldine Walton, longtime librarian and historian of the local black community, died Friday, Jan. 16, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan at the age of 77. Walton worked at Manhattan Public Library for 34 years, more than half of which she spent as head reference librarian. But


    Maurice “Max” Stowell, 84, of Marysville, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. The family provided some of the following information. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21,  2015, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.


    Edward Fosha, 85, of Leonardville, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at the Mercy Regional Health Center. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 , 2015, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center. Additional obituary information will be announced later by Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.


    Robert Paterson, 67, of Manhattan, died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.  Services are pending with Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.


    Dr. Hayward Gosse Spangler, 76, died December 7, 2014, after a long illness. The family provided some of the following information. He was born July 6, 1938, in Red Bank, N.J. A loving husband of 49 years, Hayward is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Lara Spangler (James Gilmore, MD)

    Robin Elaine Smith, 57, of Manhattan, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Mercy Regional Health Center. Robin was born in Topeka on Oct. 3, 1957, a daughter of Barbara Ann (Smith) Hall, of Manhattan and the late John Boatwright. The family provided the following information.     Herbert J. Watts, 101, died Jan. 16, 2015, in the Lindsborg Community Hospital, Lindsborg. The family provided the following information. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church.  He was born March 10, 1913 near 3 p.m. in a snowstorm in the farm house near Minneapolis, KS. His
