Summary: An EA for the proposed closure of the Four Corners Gate at Fort Riley has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Council on Environmental Quality Regulations, 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1500 et seq., and 32 CFR 651 Environmental Analysis of Army Actions. This EA analyzes potential environmental consequences of the Proposed Action. The purpose of the Proposed Action is to enable Fort Riley to return the Soldiers that currently operate the Four Corners Gate to mission-related activities. Closure of the Four Corners Gate is the Preferred Alternative. A second alternative is "No Action". Under the "No Action" Alternative, Fort Riley would not close the Four Corners Gate. This EA analyzes the effect of each alternative on abiotic and biotic resources, cultural resources, and the sociological environment. The EA concludes the following: 1. The Preferred Alternative would meet the Army's purpose and need by enhancing the readiness of Soldiers that would return to unit training after the closure of the Four Corners Gate. No significant adverse environmental effects are anticipated as a result of implementation of the Preferred Alternative. 2. The "No Action" Alternative would not close the Four Corners Gate and would not enable more Soldiers to train with their units, and thus would not fully support the military mission.
